Klick Konnect › What creative work costs

Addis Ababa · Ethiopia

What creative work actually costs in Ethiopia.

Everybody wants a rate card and nobody can honestly publish one, because no reliable survey of Addis Ababa creative rates exists. So this page does the two things that are actually useful: it explains how each discipline is priced, and it shows the real numbers posted on this platform — and says how few they are.

An honest note about the numbers on this page. There is no reliable published survey of creative rates in Addis Ababa. Rather than invent a rate card, this page explains how each discipline is actually priced, and shows the real budgets posted on Klick Konnect — stating how many they are, so you can judge how much weight they carry.

What we can actually tell you

Every figure below comes from a real job posted on this platform or a rate a real creative set on their own profile. The sample is small and honest about being small. It grows as the platform does, and this page updates with it.

Full-time video editor roles posted on Klick Konnect in 2026 advertised 5,000–9,000 ETB per month, across three postings. That is the extent of what we can currently evidence, and it covers one discipline and one employment type.

How each discipline is priced

Knowing the shape of a quote is more useful than knowing an average, because it tells you what you are being charged for and what you can change to move the number.

DisciplineUsually quotedWhat moves the price most
Photography Half-day, full-day, or per finished image Number of locations, lighting and assistant requirements, how many images come back retouched
Videography Day rate for the shoot, edit priced separately Shoot days versus edit days, crew size, equipment, travel outside Addis
Video editing Per finished minute, per project, or monthly retainer Volume of footage, turnaround speed, number of revision rounds
Graphic design Per deliverable, per project, or retainer Number of concepts and revisions, whether it is a mark or a full identity system
Motion graphics Per finished second or per deliverable Whether you supply designed frames, and how much is animated rather than arranged
Digital marketing Monthly retainer Number of channels, whether content production is included or billed separately
Sound design Per shoot day on location; per minute or per project in post Whether it is recording on the day or repairing audio afterwards

The four things that actually move a creative quote

1. Scope, stated as a deliverable

“A video” has no price. “One ninety-second edit for Instagram, from a four-hour shoot in Bole, delivered in ten days, with two rounds of changes” has a price that three people can quote against and you can compare. Most of the variance in quotes you receive is variance in what people assumed you meant.

2. Time, including the invisible half

The shoot is the visible part. Selection, editing, colour, sound and revisions are usually the larger part and are where a suspiciously low quote has quietly cut corners. When you compare two numbers, check they cover the same days.

3. Equipment and crew

Whether lighting, a gimbal, a second operator or a sound recordist are included changes a quote more than the day rate does. Ask what is in the bag, and what is a rental being passed through at cost.

4. Rights and how long you will use it

A social post and a year-long paid advertising campaign are different purchases even when the file is identical. Say at quoting stage where the work will run and for how long — raising it afterwards is how relationships sour.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a video editor earn in Addis Ababa?

Full-time video editor roles posted on Klick Konnect during 2026 advertised between 5,000 and 9,000 ETB per month. That is a small sample of real postings rather than a market survey, and freelance per-project work is priced separately and varies far more widely.

Why don't you publish a rate card?

Because we would be making it up. Nobody has surveyed creative rates in Addis Ababa properly, and a table of invented numbers would anchor both buyers and creatives to a figure with nothing behind it. We publish what is actually posted on this platform, and we say how many postings that is.

What is the fastest way to find out what my project costs?

Post it with the budget you have, even as a rough range. It is free and takes a few minutes. The applications you get — or do not get — will tell you within a day whether the number is realistic, which is better information than any published average.

Should I pay a day rate or a project price?

Project pricing suits work with a defined deliverable — a logo, a set of product photos, a finished edit. Day rates suit work where you are buying someone's time and the output depends on the day, such as event coverage. Retainers make sense once you need the same thing every month.

Is a deposit normal in Ethiopia?

Yes. Roughly half upfront with the balance on delivery is common and reasonable for project work. For wedding and event coverage a booking deposit that holds the date is standard practice.

Does Klick Konnect take a commission?

No. Posting is free, there is no commission, and you pay the creative directly at whatever rate the two of you agree in ETB.
